How do Chiropractic Adjustments Work?
The word Chiropractic is derived from Greek meaning literally ‘to treat with the hands’.
It is a non-invasive, complementary therapy which uses a variety of techniques including manual adjustment of the joints of the spinal vertebrae.
The clinical indication for this practice is to improve function and mobility of joints and surrounding soft tissues leading to a reduction in symptoms from specific musculoskeletal issues.
Chiropractic adjustments
Chiropractic adjustments are small, precise stretch-based movements that are applied to a joint by a Chiropractor. The result of this is an increase in the movement available at a joint and a similar response in local tissues.
Longer Chiropractic Consultations
Specifically at Metro Chiropractic Clinic, every treatment session starts with the use of massage techniques to reduce muscle tension in the immediate and directly related areas to your condition. Chiropractic adjustments will follow if clinically indicated, as well as joint mobilisations and gentle stretching.
You won’t be rushed in or out.
Our Chiropractors take time with each patient to provide the information you need to understand and participate in your road to recovery.
As every individual is different, we will treat you accordingly while also considering your health, preferences and symptoms.
Appointments are a minimum of 30 minutes long.
Our belief is that a treatment is the length of time that we need to help you. We will discuss this with you however if we feel that you would benefit from a longer session (at no extra cost), then this will be your consult duration. As you improve, this may shorten as we simply do not have an as extensive amount of work to do with you. However, you will always receive the care you need.
After a Chiropractic Adjustment
At the end of the chiropractic adjustment and consultation session, your movement will be evaluated and compared to your pre-treatment abilities.
Stretches and exercises will be demonstrated and the purpose of which, explained to help you to manage your complaint in between visits. We will also discuss the next appointment, should it be necessary, to continue getting you back to your normal self.

Chiropractic FAQs
Our appointments are a minimum of 30 minutes long. Initially however they may be a little longer (at no extra cost to you) while we are addressing more extensive issues.
The benefits of an adjustment can last for a varying length of time depending on factors such as inflammation levels, how chronic your complaint is, the movements that your body has to go through on a daily basis, lifestyle etc.
Our chiropractors are trained in scheduling you to maximise the benefits from each adjustment and will also give you advice on how to maintain the improvements that you gain from treatment.
Chiropractic adjustments can provide pain relief, restoration of movement and increased function. With time, this can provide relief and management of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal issues while also generally helping to maintain good joint health.
The popping or clicking noise you hear during an adjustment is the release of gases in a joint due to pressure differences created by the stretch based movement.
